Mount Kilimanjaro has a number of recognized routes by which you can ascend to the summit of Kilimanjaro at Uhuru Peak:Marangu, Machame, Lemosho, Rongai, Shira, Umbwe and Mweke. As such, there is a route for everyone that can exactly meet an individual’s limitations, be they financial, fitness, time or company. Kilimanjaro Climb Routes - Uhuru Peak Mount KilimanjaroAll ascents to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro commence around midnight, because at that time the scree is frozen together, making it easier to climb, and to ensure that you reach Uhuru Peak in time to watch the sunrise over the African plains.

The famous sign at the peak reads:

“Congratulations! You are now at Uhuru Peak, Tanzania, 5,895 m. AMSL. Africa’s Highest Point. World’s Highest Free-Standing Mountain.”
