Kilimanjaro Marathon 2012

Kilimanjaro Marathon 2011

The Kilimanjaro Marathon (42.2km), Half Marathon (21.1km) and Fun Run (5km) is going into its 9th year!

As a fully registered IAAF race, the marathon has official marshalling, time-keeping and refreshment points at regular intervals. It may be used as a qualifier for Comrades. The race is run under the watchful eye of Mount Kilimanjaro, with the altitude gain being quite manageable and with the entire race being completed between 830-1150m asl, on good tarred roads. Enthusiastic local crowd support cheers you along the route, and the social runners amongst you may even stop for a cold ‘Kili’ beer along the way!

Chris Louie – Took part in the 2011 race and commented as follows after completing it:

“The marathon was difficult but good.  The heat and altitude made it more difficult.  A description and elements would have been helpful.  The research that I found on-line was not the actuality of the course.  The transportation was very accommodating.  As we did not finish as early as we had hoped, the driver was willing to wait for us.”

Combine this race with a Kilimanjaro climb, a safari or a trek to the Serengeti, or perhaps relax for a few days in Zanzibar – the perfect destination to rest those weary legs.
